1. Agreement and Acceptance
These Terms of Service form the complete agreement between you and TGH CARPENTRY LTD from the moment you first use this website or accept a quotation. By browsing the site, by sending an enquiry, by accepting a written quotation, or by commissioning any of the services set out below, you confirm that you have read these terms and you agree to be bound by them.
These terms apply whenever you deal with the Company and no other document governs a workshop commission unless it is signed by both you and a director or authorised manager of TGH CARPENTRY LTD. A catalogue page, a social post or a verbal chat never overrides the written terms. If any part of these terms is held to be unenforceable, that part is read down to its minimum extent and the rest of the terms continue in full force. No single term being invalid makes the whole agreement void, just as a single rogue board does not stop a good carcass standing square.
Only officers of the Company may vary these terms. A job card issued by a site team member cannot alter a condition stated here and in your accepted quotation. Whenever you are in doubt, ask for the arrangement in writing so the workshop bench record matches what you expect.
2. About TGH CARPENTRY LTD
TGH CARPENTRY LTD is a private company carrying on the trade of carpentry, joinery and fitting alongside a registered activity in computer integrated systems design and related services. The company name is TGH CARPENTRY LTD, and the workshop trades from Gatewick Lane in the Caldecotte district of Milton Keynes.
Our registered and trading address is:
The services we provide include bespoke joinery and fitted furniture, kitchen and wardrobe fitting, staircases and balustrades, timber frame and structural work, floor and deck installation, and restoration and repairs. Full descriptions are set out on the services page, but the scope of every individual job is fixed by its own accepted quotation.
3. Quotations, Estimates and Pricing
A quotation from TGH CARPENTRY LTD is a written, fixed price for a defined scope of work, prepared by a person at the bench after a site survey and a review of your brief. An estimate, by contrast, is a good faith approximation of what a piece of work is likely to cost and is not fixed. Where we have written the word quotation, the price is guaranteed for the period stated; where we have written the word estimate, the final cost may rise or fall as the true scope becomes clear.
Every quotation states what it includes, what it excludes, the standard of finish, the timber species and grade, and any assumptions about the state of the site. If a factor outside that list materially changes the job, both sides have the right to ask for the quotation to be revisited before the work proceeds past the point of no return.
Prices are shown in pounds sterling unless we agree otherwise in writing. VAT is added where the law requires it. We never add surprise line items at the end of a project. If the site reveals a genuine extra, such as a hidden stud wall or a damp void, we stop and agree the addition with you before we spend your money on it.
4. Booking and Confirmation
Your commission is only locked into the workshop diary once we hold both your acceptance of a written quotation and the agreed deposit. At that point we confirm the start date, the estimated duration and the working hours for the project in writing, and the job joins the queue of the joinery bench.
We schedule work fairly and honestly, and we commit dates only when we are confident we can meet them. Because a joinery workshop runs seasonally busy, the most dependable way to hold a preferred start date is to book early. Accepting a quotation without paying a deposit reserves nothing more than a conversation, the same way a pencil line on paper reserves nothing on the bench until the saw moves.
If you need to change a confirmed start date we will try to accommodate you, depending on the diary. Any written change to a booking is made by mutual agreement and confirmed in writing before it takes effect.
5. Deposits and Methods of Payment
Most workshop commissions require a deposit before materials are ordered and work begins. The deposit is a fair share of the cost of the project, and it funds the purchase of the timber, ironmongery and finishing materials that are cut and prepared to your specification. The balance is due as set out in the table laid out inside your accepted quotation, and in practice means payment in staged amounts against defined points of the work.
We accept payment by bank transfer, by card through a trusted payment partner, or by cash only where we have agreed it in advance. We never store full card numbers on our own systems, and the workshop never keeps a copy of your card in the job book. A receipt is issued for every payment so that both the client ledger and the workshop book agree.
Where a commission is abandoned by the client after materials have been cut, the deposit is retained to cover the honest cost of those made to order materials and the workshop time already committed. This is stated plainly here so there is no surprise at the end.
6. Client Responsibilities and Preparation
Some responsibilities naturally belong to you as the client and cannot be handed to the joinery team. You are responsible for doing the following before the agreed start of the works.
- Giving clear access. Making the rooms or outside areas reachable and safe for our team and our materials on the agreed start date and times.
- Preparing the space. Emptying drawers, cupboards, alcoves and the footprint of the fitting so the work area is clear of your possessions, or agreeing that your team will move them.
- Declaring the site truthfully. Telling us about services hidden in walls or floors, such as cabling or pipework, and about any load bearing wall or structure before we cut into it.
- Parking and supply. Arranging reasonable parking and confirming whether power and water are available at the working position for the day.
- Supervision and sign off. Being reasonably available to approve key decisions and finishes as the job reaches defined progress points.
If a delay to the works is caused by a client responsibility that we flagged in advance, such as a space not cleared or an agreed decision not made, additional time may be charged at the rate agreed in the quotation, and the completion date moves accordingly.
7. Timber Selection and Materials
Timber is a living material and its character is part of its value. The boards we use are selected to the species and grade in your quotation, but the natural grain, colour and movement of wood mean no two finished pieces are identical. We do our best to match visible surfaces for tone, and we will point out conspicuous features before they are fixed where that is practical.
Where a quotation names a specific species such as oak, we use that species unless you approve a substitution in advance because of availability or a better match for a neighbouring finish. Engineered alternatives are used only where agreed, and always because they fit the purpose, never as a silent downgrade.
Small imperfections that are natural to timber, including knots, mineral streaks and fine movement checks, are not treated as defects. These are the honest signs of a real tree, and we describe what to expect before we fit so that neither side is disappointed later.
8. Workmanship, Guarantee and Defects
We stand behind our work to a standard a good joiner is proud to sign. Every commission is built to the accepted drawings and specification, with joints that fit, edges that are straight and doors that hang true. If we can do better, we do it before we call the job finished.
TGH CARPENTRY LTD provides a workmanship guarantee for a period of twelve months from the date the works are completed and signed off. During that period we will repair or replace, at our cost, any work that fails because of faulty installation or workmanship, provided the failure was reported to us in writing and the work has not been damaged by misuse, neglect, alteration or accidental impact.
The guarantee does not cover the natural movement and seasonal working of timber, which any real wood will show, nor does it cover finishes such as varnish or paint once they have been damaged, altered or neglected by a third party. Timber is not steel; a fine-grained oak panel that moves one millimetre across a cold winter is behaving correctly, not failing.
To make a claim under the guarantee, write to chat@tghcarpentry.hair or telephone +19567074187 with a description and a photograph if you can, and we will schedule a visit and put the matter right within a reasonable time. We would rather re-cut one drawer than argue about it.
9. Changes to the Works and Variations
Good projects grow honestly. When you decide to add a shelf, widen a bank of drawers or change a door style once the build is underway, we record that as a variation. A variation changes the scope, often the materials and sometimes the price and the completion date.
No variation is charged or binding until you have seen and accepted a written statement of what it adds to the price and to the schedule. Minor adjustments that keep the work to the standard of the specification, such as trimming a panel to sit flush, are part of the job and not a variation.
If you ask for a change while we are mid build and we can still make it without waste, we will tell you the honest cost. If a change would waste material already cut to the original size, we say so plainly so you can decide with the numbers in front of you.
10. Timelines, Access and Delays
Dates given for the start and completion of a commission are made in good faith and are targets, not guarantees against every delay the world can throw at a job. Weather that stops exterior timber work, a supplier that ships the wrong board, or an unexpected structural discovery can all move a schedule honestly.
Where we cause a delay through our own fault, we will tell you promptly and do our best to recover the lost time. Where a delay is caused by a factor outside our reasonable control, we are not required to pay any penalty, but we will keep you informed and prioritise your job to get it back on the bench as soon as the cause clears.
We expect our team to respect your home and your hours. Agreed working hours are written into the quotation, and our joiners work tidily, protect the areas they pass through and clear up before they leave each day.
11. Cancellation and Refund Policy
You may cancel a confirmed commission by notice in writing at any time before it would have begun. The amount we refund depends on how far the work has advanced, for the same reason a woodworker cannot un-saw a board once it is cut.
- Before materials are ordered. If we have not yet cut or ordered your materials, we will refund any deposit you have paid, less nothing at all. It would be an honest square deal.
- After materials are ordered. If materials have been brought in and cut to your specification, we retain the deposit up to the honest cost of those materials and workshop time already used, and refund the remainder.
- During the works. If you cancel part way through, you pay for the work completed and the materials prepared to that point, and for any made to order items that cannot be returned, with the balance of your deposit refunded.
- Our cancellation. If we cancel before the start of a commission because of circumstances beyond our control, we refund your deposit in full and apologise with candour.
No refund offsets any materials that were made specifically for your job and cannot reasonably be stocked, because those are spent the moment they are cut to your size.
12. Limits of Liability for Works and Services
TGH CARPENTRY LTD carries appropriate insurance for the works we undertake and we never ask you to waive a right the law does not allow you to waive. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any liability that cannot be limited by the law of England and Wales.
Subject to that, to the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with any works, services or website use, whether in contract, tort, negligence or otherwise, is limited to the total amount you have paid to us for the works or services to which the claim relates. This means that if a fitted wardrobe cost one thousand pounds, our total responsibility toward you for that wardrobe is capped at that sum, rather than at some open ended figure for the contents of the room it holds.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost income, loss of business, loss of use, or damage to items stored in an unrecommended pile within the workspace, except where such loss is caused by our own negligence and the law refuses to allow us to exclude it. We recommend you keep your own contents insurance in force while building work proceeds in your home.
13. Intellectual Property and Designs
Any sketch, scaled drawing, cutting list or specification we prepare for your commission is created by, and remains the property of, TGH CARPENTRY LTD unless we agree otherwise in writing. When you commission furniture to our drawing we will build it for you without additional licence, but the drawing itself and the design method stay ours.
We license these designs to you for the purpose of the single project they were made for. You are welcome to enjoy the furniture in your home and to describe it to friends, but the drawings are not to be handed to another maker to reproduce our method without a written arrangement, no more than a client would expect a master carver to give away his pattern book.
We like to photograph the finished pieces we are proud of, and we do that on clear terms. Unless you opt out on the acceptance form, we may use a photograph of a completed commission on our own website or portfolio to show our work. We will not use personal details, your name or your address alongside those photographs without your separate consent.
14. Your Use of This Website
This website is provided to inform you about our services and to let you make an enquiry. You agree to use the website lawfully and not to do anything that avoids, tampers with or interferes with its proper working, its security, or the experience of other visitors.
You agree not to attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, our servers, or any system connected to it, and not to submit through the contact form any content that is unlawful, misleading, harmful, or that falsely claims to be from a person you are not. You also agree not to use the site to gather personal data about other visitors or to mine the content for an unlicensed reuse.
We may suspend access to the site for maintenance without notice, and we make no promise that the site or any of its pages will be available at all times, error free or free from interruption. The content on the site is provided for general information, and before acting on any detail we suggest you confirm the specifics of your own job with the workshop.
15. Third Party Suppliers and Links
Some work naturally brings in other trades, such as an electrician for under unit sockets or a decorator for a finishing coat. Where TGH CARPENTRY LTD introduces you to a trusted third party to do a separate piece of work, that third party is contracted directly with you for their own part, and their own terms govern their work.
Where we engage a subcontractor to perform part of a commission on our own account, we remain responsible to you for the standard of that part of the work as if we had done it ourselves, and we hold that subcontractor accountable to our guarantee in turn.
The site may link to suppliers and authorities we trust. A link is an invitation to look, and we are not responsible for the content, terms or practices of any third party website. We gain no undisclosed benefit from the outbound links we keep, and we choose them for the reader.
16. Data, Privacy and Communications
Any personal data you share with us is looked after under the Privacy Policy, which sits alongside these terms and forms part of the agreement between us. Read the Privacy Policy before sending us your details. Nothing in the way we collect, hold or use your data differs between the two documents, and where there is ever a conflict the Privacy Policy governs how we treat personal data.
By making an enquiry or commissioning work you consent to us contacting you by email, telephone or post at the details you provide, for purposes directly connected with your enquiry and commission. We send marketing only to people who have separately chosen to receive it, and every such message carries an easy way to stop it.
You accept that routine operational messages, such as a confirmation of a visit or a note that materials have arrived, are part of providing the service and are not marketing. If you would rather hear from us by a particular channel, tell a person at the workshop and we will do our honest best to match your preference.
17. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms of Service, the schedule carried inside each quotation, and the Privacy Policy are governed by, and read under, the laws of England and Wales, without regard to any rules of private international law that would point elsewhere. Every contract between you and TGH CARPENTRY LTD is formed and performed within the United Kingdom.
The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or connected with these terms or the works they cover. You and we both submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts, which means a dispute properly brought in England and Wales will be heard there.
This choice of law is the same steady timber the workshop builds with: predictable, honest and fair to both sides. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking urgent interim relief from a court where it is necessary to protect a right before a full hearing.
18. Other Conditions and How to Contact Us
These terms apply to the fullest current extent of the law but do not displace any statutory rights you hold as a consumer that cannot be waived. Where you commission work as a consumer for domestic use, the consumer protection law of the United Kingdom gives you rights that we never ask you to give up, and these terms are read to respect them.
Where you commission work as a business, you confirm that you are acting in the course of your business, and the consumer protections described above do not extend to a purely business arrangement once both sides have agreed the quotation.
If you have a question, a concern or a request relating to these terms, to a quotation or to a commission, the fastest route to a real answer is the workshop. Write to chat@tghcarpentry.hair or telephone +19567074187, or write to us at TGH CARPENTRY LTD, 40 Gatewick Lane, Caldecotte, Milton Keynes - MK7 8LJ, United Kingdom (GB). We read every message, and we answer as promptly as the workshop diary allows.
We may revise these terms from time to time to keep them accurate and up to date, and the current version always appears on this page, dated at the head. The version in force at the time you accepted a particular quotation continues to govern that commission, so that a contract we agreed last season is not silently changed by an update published next year.
Thank you for reading. With a clear set of terms behind us, the marks we scribe at the start of the build stay square through to the final fitting, and that is the foundation we enjoy working from.
